GamesIndustry.biz reported the result is from console sales in the UK. It turns out to be an almost complete domination of Nintendo and Microsoft.
Switch performed best, and 42% of all consoles sold were Nintendo’s beloved hybrid. The excellent result is partly due to a great bundle with “a Switch Neon machine, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and three months of Nintendo Switch Online”. However, Xbox was very close and gnawed at the heels of Switch, since 40% of all consoles sold were Xbox.
GamesIndustry.biz writes that this was a consequence of the fact that Microsoft “reduced its Xbox Series S machine to less than £ 200 during Black Friday”. The remaining 18% of console sales are attributed to PlayStation 5.
The GfK (market research agency) boss Dorian Bloch says:
“Console hardware volumes during Black Friday week are similar to last year, and Switch was No. 1 again. However, total Switch volumes are much lower than Black Friday 2021, as both Sony and Microsoft also focused on black friday week with tempting offers.
Bloch also reveals that VR headsets were the best-selling accessory (revenue) during Black Friday, starring the Meta Quest 2 with Resident Evil 4 bundle. Controllers were number two, and Bloch says:
“Controllers remained the number 2 gaming accessory. This was driven in particular by Microsoft’s Controller deals and strong hardware sales for all three consoles, driving controller adoption. It was the best controller week since Black Friday 2019.”
