Facebook wants to prevent a collective lawsuit in the United Kingdom, in which 3 billion pounds are demanded. The plaintiffs accuse Facebook of abusing its dominant position to monetize users’ personal data.
The lawsuit was filed by academic Liza Lovdahl Gormsen on behalf of 45 million Facebook users in Britain.
Parent company Meta says the lawsuit is “completely unfounded” and should not go ahead.
Lawyers representing Meta say plaintiffs mistakenly assume that any win amounts to a financial loss suffered by individual Facebook users. The said amount would also have been taken out of thin air.
