In 2024, Amazon has ambitious plans to extend its Zijm drone delivery program to the United Kingdom and Italy. Moreover, the company is expanding its drone delivery operations to a third location within the United States, following the introduction of this service in College Station, Texas, and Lockeford, California.
The launch of drone deliveries in the UK and Italy will commence at a single yet undisclosed location. The expansion will be facilitated by Amazon’s establishment of larger fulfilment centres in these countries, offering customers a broader selection of items eligible for drone delivery, contingent on their weight.
Amazon has specifically mentioned categories such as office and technical supplies, household products, and beauty items as part of the offerings available for drone delivery.
Up until now, Amazon has operated specialized delivery centres at its initial two Prime Air locations.
For these expanded operations, Amazon intends to employ the MK30 drone, which was first unveiled in November. This model boasts an impressive range, double that of its predecessors, and is capable of functioning even in light rain. Furthermore, the MK30 drone is characterized by its compact size, reduced weight, and quieter operation, signifying advancements in Amazon’s drone technology.
