No official final declaration after G20 summit, but consensus on tackling food crisis

No official final declaration after G20 summit, but consensus on tackling food crisis Pin It

The finance ministers and central bank leaders of the G20 countries have not agreed on a joint final statement of their summit in Indonesia. According to US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, disagreements over the war in Ukraine were too great.

For example, Western countries have imposed severe sanctions on Russia, because, according to them, the Russian army commits war crimes in Ukraine. Russia strongly denies this. Other G20 countries, including China, India and South Africa, have been more restrained in their response.

The delegates have been meeting on the Indonesian island of Bali since yesterday. At the summit, the consequences of the corona pandemic were initially to be discussed, but the war in Ukraine was given a more prominent place on the agenda. Both the Russian finance minister and the Ukrainian finance minister will take part in the meeting virtually. Ukraine is not a member of G20, and is presented as a guest.

According to Yellen, the countries do agree on the need to address the worsening food crisis. The minister of finance of the host country Indonesia confirmed that reading.
