Production in the Japanese industry fell by 0.9 percent in November compared to a month earlier. The Japanese government reported this on the basis of provisional figures.
On average, economists had expected a production decline of 1 percent. Industrial production in Japan fell by 4.5 percent in October. On an annual basis, production fell by 8.1 percent, after a decline of 7.7 percent in October.
There were also figures on Japanese retail sales. They increased by 4.5 percent on a monthly basis in November, which is slightly less strong than experts expected. A month earlier, retail sales plummeted by 14.4 percent. Japanese core inflation, ie consumer prices excluding fresh food, amounted to 0.8 percent in December. Normal inflation in Japan amounted to 0.9 percent.
