The EU member states postpone a decision on the Brexit delay that the British government has requested until the beginning of next week. This is what EU sources say after a meeting of EU ambassadors in Brussels. They meet again Monday or Tuesday.
The 27 countries that remain after the Brexit agree that London can be delayed but not about the precise date and further interpretation of it, such as possible conditions. They don’t want an extra EU summit and handle the matter through a written procedure, according to a diplomat.
During the weekend the capitals will continue to discuss how they will respond to developments in the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Boris Johnson submits to Parliament a new request for early elections on Monday. He has requested an extension to Brussels until 31 January 2020.
