RB, better known as Reckitt Benckiser, has reached a settlement of 1.4 billion dollars with justice in the United States. A former pharma division of the British concern is accused of misleading health care organizations about a painkiller addiction remedy. Reckitt Benckiser, who denies being guilty, prevents further investigation into the case with this fine.
The investigation revolves around the former subsidiary Indivior, which the American authorities also have in mind. The company is said to have illegally increased the number of prescriptions for the Suboxone drug by lying that the drug is safer than that of competitors. The alleged fraud was already committed before the Indivior split-off in 2014.
The fine for Reckitt Benckiser is considerably higher than the provision that the company had made for the matter. The maker of Durex condoms and Dettol soap, among other things, had set aside 400 million dollars.
