The German chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer, together with collaboration partner Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a daughter of Johnson & Johnson, has settled American court claims about the blood thinner Xarelto. The two companies jointly set aside $ 775 million to buy off nearly all of the approximately 25,000 items.
The complainants claimed that internal bleeding was caused by Xarelto that sometimes could not be stopped. As a result, the drug has been the subject of a legal battle for two years and has been associated with at least 370 deaths according the American drug regulator FDA.
Bayer and Janssen each pay half of the settlement amount.
