Despite unprecedented resistance in his own Conservative Party, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has managed to get his latest coronavirus measures through Parliament. In the fight against the Omikron variant, he was assured of the support of the Labour opposition party.
Dozens of Conservative parliamentarians rebelled and voted against the new coronavirus restrictions for England. British media are talking about the largest uprising within the Conservative Party since Johnson took office.
Some of the rebels believe that some of the COVID measures further undermine the freedom of the citizen. Others have criticized Johnson’s handling of a series of scandals that have plunged the party into polls.
The delegates had to vote on each corona procedure separately. In the end, there was a clear majority for everything. For example, there will be a vaccination obligation for some of the healthcare personnel.
Also, nightclubs and other companies in England need to check whether adult visitors have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have recently been tested negative. Furthermore, the mask duty is extended.
