The UK health authorities were happy to report a decrease in new coronavirus infections for the first time in days on Sunday. In the last 24 hours there were 48,161 more cases of infection, more than 6,500 less than a day earlier. The mortality rate also decreased further, now 25.
The London government has decided to withdraw most of the remaining coronavirus measures for England with effect from Monday. This very weekend, Health minister Sajid Javid announced that he has contracted the virus, although he has already been vaccinated. Prime minister Boris Johnson, who had been in contact with Javid, decided to go into quarantine after the necessary criticism. Both feel good.
Johnson ended up in intensive care with Covid-19 last year and has been vaccinated twice. With the easing in prospect, he begged his compatriots to be careful on Sunday, with three ‘please’ times. “Proceed to the next step tomorrow with due caution and respect for others because of the risk that the disease will continue to emerge. And above all, if you are asked to come for a second shot, please do so.”
