Spotify is taking another step on the market for podcasts – digital talk shows. The Swedish music streaming company has signed an agreement of acquisition of Arcast, which produces popular podcasts about crime and extraterrestrial life. It is the third acquisition of a podcast company by Spotify in a short time.
Earlier Spotify announced that it would take over podcast providers Gimlet and Anchor. Swedes paid 230 million dollars for that first company, making it the largest acquisition of Spotify ever. The companies did not announce how much money is involved in the purchase of Arcast. Financial Times writes, based on insiders, that the deal involves a total of $ 100 million.
The same business newspaper recently reported that Spotify has begun a new round of negotiations on royalty payments for music rights. If they fall to the disadvantage of the streaming company, it can take a bite out of profitability. It is therefore very important to Spotify to offer other forms of audio as well as music, for example podcasts.
Spotify was 2 percent lower on the New York stock exchange on Tuesday afternoon at 3:40 pm on $ 139.26.
