The chip sector will not return to a healthy level until 2023. This is what Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger expects.
“I don’t expect the chip sector to return to a healthy [balance] level between supply and demand by 2023,” Gelsinger said in an interview to Bloomberg.
The CEO thinks that for certain sectors things will get worse before there is improvement.
The words of Gelsinger do not come as a surprise. As he said In May, the global shortage of semiconductors is likely to continue for a few years.
The economic upswing after the coronavirus crisis has led to strong demand for chips, while all the lockdowns have also accelerated digitisation. The automotive industry and consumer electronics manufacturers, among others, are facing shortages.
