The government has made a remarkable decision: soon you will be allowed to watch television while driving. Of course, there are limitations, more specifically as far as the level of autonomous driving is concerned.
Watching a movie, an episode of your favourite series or a live football match while driving on the motorway: it’s possible for passengers. But soon some drivers in the UK will be able to do this too. The British authorities have decided to change the road code this summer and allow video content to be played on the car’s infotainment system when it is in Level 3 autonomous mode. That is, on large roads, the car itself controls the speed, steers and brakes. In this case, the intervention of the driver is required only in special situations, which would allow him to take his eyes off the road.
In addition to the fact that the car should be equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving – which is already the case for some top models – the screen should also be able to turn itself off when necessary. In fact, the car should not only warn the driver with the usual sound and light signals that he has to take over the steering wheel again, but should also interrupt the display so that the driver can react “quickly” and correctly. Annoying of course if you miss the end of your series or the goal of your favourite team as a result….
