Fourteen European price comparison sites accuse Google of an open letter of unchanged abuse of its market power with Google Shopping. Since the monopoly ruling of the European Commission, little has changed in practice.
“That’s why we ask you to take new measures towards Google”, the group asks Commissioner Margrethe Vestager.
In June 2017, she closed her investigation into Google’s claimed abuse of market power with Shopping. The company indeed misused its position and received a money penalty of 2.4 billion euros. In addition, it had to make adjustments in Google Search. This should not only show results from Google Shopping, but also those from other price comparisons. They do have to pay for those impressions.
“We urge the Commission to reject Google’s solution to the problem and to start non-compliance proceedings”, measures against the non-execution of the imposed penalty.
It is still Google that determines how product advertising is shown and who earns that much. That is bothering the complainers.
