Cloudflare launched free WARP VPN for mobiles

Cloudflare launched free WARP VPN for mobiles Pin It

Cloudflare has launched WARP. A free VPN service for mobile devices running on iOS or Android. The service was initially to be launched in April, but it took a little longer. The free VPN is now available via the 1.1.1.1 app for iOS and Android.

The service is free and has no restrictions on bandwidth or data traffic. Creating an account is not necessary and the service does promise not to store any personal data. Multiple users share the same connection. If you want guaranteed bandwidth, you can take out a paid subscription for € 3.99 per month.

Those who uses Windows, Mac or UNIX-like OS’es do not benefit from WARP. The free VPN service is specifically made for mobile devices. All your internet connections run through a provider’s server through a VPN. This ensures an encrypted tunnel so that your traffic cannot be tapped. Your IP address is also not visible.

WARP gives you an IP address from the Cloudfare network as standard. Unlike other paid apps, you cannot choose a server in a certain country. You always get an IP address from the US in the Cloudflare network.

To use the free VPN connection from Cloudflare, you should install the 1.1.1.1 app. This app came out earlier and contained a free, secure DNS server at the handy IP address 1.1.1.1. Hence the name. Once the app is installed, you will see a button at the bottom to enable WARP. When you do that, the VPN connection is activated.
What about privacy?

A free VPN, what’s the catch? Cloudflare says that at least you will not compromise on privacy through the use of WARP. The service promises to store the minimum of data and does not oblige you to provide personal data. Information is never sold and the service also says it does not build profiles or keep an eye on what you do on the internet.
