AstraZeneca vaccine reported high efficiency in preventing COVID-19

23rd November 2020

AstraZeneca vaccine reported high efficiency in preventing COVID-19 Pin It

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical AstraZeneca is 70 to 90 percent effective. According to AstraZeneca’s CEO Pascal Soriot, the “efficacy and safety of the vaccine” confirm that it is most effective against Covid-19. This may directly affect the ‘public health emergency’.

Test results among 20,000 volunteers showed that the drug was 70 percent effective. In subjects who first received half a dose and then a full dose of the vaccine, efficacy increased to 90 percent.

It is tricky to determine what is even called ‘efficiency’ though.

AstraZeneca is developing the potential Covid-19 vaccine with the University of Oxford. The preliminary results represent a further breakthrough in the fight against a pandemic that has killed nearly 1.4 million people and plunged the world economy into a deep depression.

Earlier, pharmacists like Pfizer and Moderna came up with encouraging reports. Their vaccines were ’95 percent’ effective. On the other hand, AstraZeneca is said to be cheaper and easier to transport.

AstraZeneca was previously able to secure billions in financial resources. Several deals have also been made on the supply of the drug. The Netherlands and other European countries have already reserved millions of doses at AstraZeneca.
