Trump will soon discuss trade quarrel with Xi Pin It

US President Donald Trump expects to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping soon. Together they could then put the finishing touches of a trade agreement between the two economic superpowers.

This week and last week there has been a high-level consultation between the Chinese and the Americans. But according to Trump, the most important trade decisions can actually only be taken by him and Xi himself.

When the meeting has to take place exactly is not clear yet. Trump used the words “not too distant future”. In the eyes of the American president, China and the US can then come to that meeting, or not.

The deadline for the armistice in the trade dispute ends on 1 March. In connoisseurs, there is increasing hope that a deal is near. The American finance minister Steven Mnuchin has already said that he is out in the discussions with the Chinese on exchange rates.

The Chinese deputy prime minister Liu He will stay a little longer in Washington than in the past. Through an interpreter, he stated that he thinks that an agreement between the countries is likely to be concluded soon. The American trade representative Robert Lighthizer stated that the delegations have certainly made progress, but that there are still some big hurdles to take.
