Australia will not allow international tourists until 2022. That’s what Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. Students and migrants coming to the country for work are given priority. “The priority is for vaccinated, skilled migrants who are important to the economy and students who come to study here,” said Morrison.
The prime minister announced that more will be possible for the Australians themselves, now that 80 percent of the population in the country will soon have had a first shot. Last week, he said that Australians and residents with permanent residence permits will be allowed to travel abroad again from November. Since last March, strict travel restrictions have been in place in the country.
The Australian city of Melbourne has been the world’s longest in lockdown since Sunday because of COVID-19. The Australian broadcaster ABC calculated that the residents were already inside for 245 days during the various lockdown periods.
