US President Donald Trump has postponed the introduction of import taxes on cars from the European Union and Japan. The delay of 180 days was already in the air.
Previously Trump threatened with rates of up to 25 percent. He relied on national security. The import of foreign cars has already been subjected to an extensive investigation. Earlier this year, this yielded a number of recommendations. At the top of the US government, opinions were still divided about the new taxes.
Trump has asked the Trade Commission that deals with the introduction of possible import duties for an update on the negotiations. He wants a response within 180 days. Trump will pay a state visit to Japan later this month.
