Worldwide steel production increased by 6.4 percent on an annual basis in April to 156.7 million tonnes. The World Steel Association announced the data.
China accounted for more than 85 million tonnes of steel. That is an increase of 12.7 percent. In India, production was 1.5 percent higher at 8.8 million tons. With 8.6 million tonnes, Japan produced slightly less than in the same period a year earlier.
The United States increased production by 7.3 percent to 7.4 million tons. A min of 5.7 percent to almost 2 million tons was seen in Italy. France (minus 8.1 percent) also suffered a production decline to 1.3 million tonnes.
