Oil prices went up on Thursday, following the shooting of an American drone by Iran and the possibility of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.
The price of a barrel of American oil (of 159 liters) rose 2.8 percent to $ 55.28 and Brent oil became 2.6 percent more expensive at $ 63.45 per barrel. By dropping the drone, tensions between the United States and Iran continue to increase, following the earlier suspected attacks on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Washington accuses Iran of those attacks. Tehran denies it.
The Fed said on Wednesday in its interest rate decision that it could lower interest rates if the US economy weakened further. By stimulating the economy, oil demand in the US can increase more strongly. It also turned out that US oil stocks fell more sharply than expected last week.
