The battle for the acquisition of Morrisons will be decided in a one-day auction on Saturday, the supermarket has announced, as two US private equity companies compete for the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain. Fortress and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) have to make a formal bid, with the auction going up to 5 rounds on Saturday.
Supermarket chain Morrisons has confirmed that it will cut 1,400 jobs as it announces plans to close online home delivery in a number of stores. A spokesperson for Morrisons: “there are no jobs at stake; 1,400 jobs are removed from the company. However, all colleagues will be transferred to an alternative position or offered voluntary resignation.”
Deliveroo has started with fast delivery of food. The company has opened a “dark store” in London in collaboration with supermarket chain Morrisons, according to the report. The service is called Deliveroo Hop and will compete with several other delivery start-ups such as Gorillas, Getir and Zapp, which have become popular in the UK, the report said.
