Activity in the services sector in the euro zone grew slightly faster in March. That emerges from definitive figures from market researcher Markit.
The purchasing managers’ index, which reflects the activity in the sector, recorded a level of 53.3 last month compared to 52.8 a month earlier. A provisional estimate of 52.7 was reported. A position above 50 indicates growth, each figure below it indicates contraction. The composite index, including industry, came in at 51.6 against a previously reported 51.3.
The index for the German services sector was 55.4, against a level of 55.3 in February. The increase was slightly better than the level of 54.9 that had been reported in a preliminary prognosis. The benchmark for the service sector in France, with a score of 49.1, eventually also performed slightly better than expected. A month earlier, a score of 47.8 was reported and, with an earlier estimate, a score of 48.7.
