Activity in the services sector in the eurozone remained stable in January. This is evident from definitive figures from market researcher Markit.
The purchasing managers index, which reflects the activity in the sector, recorded a score of 51.2 as in December. A level of 50.8 was reported in a preliminary estimate. A stand above 50 points to growth, each figure below that on shrinkage. The composite index, including the industry, came to 51, against 51.1 a month earlier
The index for the German services sector was 53.0, against a level of 51.8 in December. The indicator for the services sector in France came to 47.8, where it stood at 49 a month earlier. For Italy and Spain, positions of 49.7 and 54.7 respectively were measured.
The British services sector shrank. The index for the United Kingdom dropped to 50.1, from a level of 51.2 in December.
