Bretoniere Group, the women’s shoe company known by brands like Shabbies Amsterdam and Fred de la Bretoniere, is applying for bankruptcy.
The company struggled for a long time with declining sales. A search for a strategic partner did not end up with the meaningful results.
Last week all the business unit responsible for the wholesale activities fell. The bankruptcy of the other business units, including their own stores and the webshop, has now also been requested. The expectation is that the bankruptcy will be pronounced Tuesday. For the time being shops and webshop are open.
The management regrets the bankruptcy, but hopes that a restart can be made. In view of this, the company can not make further announcements. 115 people work at the Bretoniere Group. Their future is uncertain.
The company emphasizes that the shoe sector does not benefit from the current economic prosperity. Since the end of the economic crisis, sales have dropped to a quarter.
