British Petroleum grouo ended the third quarter with a lower profit. Falling oil prices bothered the company, as did hurricane Barry, which led to lower production in the Gulf of Mexico.
Adjusted profit for replacement costs, the most important measure of profit for BP, was less than $ 2.3 billion. That was 3.8 billion dollars a year earlier.
The reported result was down, to a net loss of $ 749 million. This is due to a write-off of 2.6 billion dollars, mainly on the sale of gas activities in the United States for which BP already warned earlier this month.
