Aldi has so far remained largely aloof from the advance of technological gadgets in supermarkets such as self-scanners and cashless shops. That seems to be changing now – at least with Aldi Süd.
Brand registration for “Shop & Go”
UK Retail Week bases its reasoning on a trademark registration that Aldi applied for in the UK for a ‘Shop&Go’ format. The magazine says it has information that it relates to a cashless store format, which has to compete with Amazon Fresh.
This concept of the e-commerce giant has only just arrived in the UK, but is rapidly expanding. A discounter like Aldi does not necessarily have to be at the forefront of technological developments in supermarkets, but this trademark registration can be seen as an indication that Aldi Süd does not intend to let itself be eaten by Amazon.
