The United Kingdom has announced that its imports of fruit and vegetable products from Morocco have increased by 40% since January 2021. About 25% of tomatoes come from Morocco. Meanwhile, the UK imports about 20% of soft fruit from the North African country.
“In 2020, 32.8% of all UK imports from Morocco consisted of fruit and vegetables,” said the British embassy, which added that the West Midlands imported the highest amount of goods from Morocco for a total of over $ 171 million (22.6%).
Morocco and the United Kingdom share strong diplomatic relations characterized by cooperation in various fields, including trade. In 2019, Morocco and the UK signed the association agreement in London, with the aim of maintaining bilateral ties between the two countries after Brexit. Since Brexit, business and trade cooperation between the two countries has flourished.
Morocco’s exports to the United Kingdom amounted to $ 568.77 million in 2020, while UK exports to Morocco were estimated at $ 782.03 in 2021.
