The American car manufacturer Ford Motor seems to want to close a large engine factory in Bridgend. That is what the British media draw from an announcement by Ford that union drivers have been invited for an interview. There are more than 1500 jobs on stake.
Ford did not want to comment to British journalists on this “speculation.” A few months ago, Ford reported that it would cut some 1,000 jobs in Wales, where this plant is also located.
Experts have been concerned about the production location for some time. That’s because Ford has reduced certain investments in a new engine type. They wonder if the factory can still be profitable if fewer engines are made. British car sales are not doing so well lately, partly due to all the uncertainty surrounding the brexit.
