Boohoo Group to cooperate with authorities, conduct independent investigation on work conditions Pin It

Nowadays when we hear about poor working conditions at the factories we use to imagine places as far as Bangladesh. But such places may be as close as Leicester. The allegations against Boohoo considers that the Group put workers in ‘modern slavery’. The investigation will establish the truth.

The Boohoo Group web store has established an independent investigation into abuses at suppliers of clothing for the company. The abuses could involve exceptionally poor working conditions and exploitation of workers.

The investigation is led by a lawyer in collaboration with a specialist regulatory agency. British investigative services announced on Monday that searches had been conducted at a number of locations in the English city of Leicester, where suppliers of Boohoo are located. There were concerns about forced labour, human trafficking and modern slavery.

Boohoo shares plummeted this week due to concerns that the company could be formally investigated by the British modern slavery authorities. Several webshops have stopped selling Boohoo’s fashion products.

Boohoo indicated to set aside £10 million to address malpractice in his supply chain, saying contracts with two suppliers have been broken due to non-compliance.
